Name: Dawn Ashe
Location: Registered Clinical Audiologist at HearingLife, Edmonton, AB
“The most satisfying part of my job, bar none, is getting to help people every day. It is so gratifying to assist patients (and their families) throughout the process to better hearing.”

Dawn Ashe is a lifelong learner. She enjoys learning about new instruments, languages, sports, cultures – you name it!
“I also really enjoy keeping up to date with all of the amazing research and advancements in the field of audiology,” adds Dawn. “To me, learning is the spice of life! Recently, I extended this appreciation for learning to give an interactive presentation on the ear and sound to third-grade students in the [Edmonton] area. You can never start too early!”

Dawn’s passion for learning is certainly reflected in her education background. This knowledge enthusiast was awarded a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in biology, with concentration in genetics, from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. She later received a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she did capstone research on noise exposure, hearing conservation, and noise-induced hearing loss in police officers.
Dawn brought her passion and education for hearing healthcare to HearingLife, formerly (Anderson Hearing Centres,) in 2007 and has held many positions within the company since then including audiometric technician, audiology assistant and finally a registered clinical audiologist.

“Hearing is such an important part of my world,” says Dawn. “When I graduated with my first degree and wasn’t sure which path I would take for my career, I started working with some wonderful audiologists and watching the amazing impact they had on patients’ lives. I fell for this profession pretty quickly, became certified as an audiology assistant, and thought “I can do this!” as my passion for it only grew. I picked up and moved to the US to obtain the Doctor of Audiology degree, and returned to this company, where I now get to do what I love every single day. Having the ability to help people really is a blessing.”
Since HearingLife is one of the sponsors for the National Campaign for Better Hearing, Dawn Ashe is able to help even more people through the campaign’s Give-Back program. The program awards hearing aids to Canadians who need them, but cannot afford them.

“The Campaign is a way for me to promote healthy hearing practices and spread the word about hearing health care; oddly enough, people don’t think about getting their hearing tested like they do their vision. More importantly, it allows me to help those with hearing loss in difficult circumstances who would ordinarily not have access to amplification. No one should just have to live with hearing loss and its myriad of effects when there is a solution out there,” says Dawn.
At the end of each workday, Dawn can proudly say that she has achieved her goal of helping people hear better.

“The most satisfying part of my job, bar none, is getting to help people every day. It is so gratifying to assist patients (and their families) throughout the process to better hearing. Ultimately, I love seeing their improvement in overall quality of life, and how happy this makes patients and their loved ones.”
