Name: Penny Alexopoulos
Location: Hearing Aid Practitioner at ListenUP! Canada, North York, ON
“The most satisfying aspect of my job is seeing a client’s eyes light up once I place their very first hearing aids into their ears.”

Penny Alexopoulos is a Hearing Instrument Specialist and Clinic Manager at the ListenUP! Canada clinic in North York and has been working there since 2011. Her very friendly and outgoing persona allows people, colleagues and clients alike, to relate, confide and connect with her easily; it also makes Penny a perfect fit for her career in hearing healthcare.

“I enjoy every minute of it,” says Penny. “I have a passion for what I do.”
Prior to her decision to become a Hearing Instrument Specialist, Penny was working in a retirement home while attending university.

“I worked at a retirement home where I met a lady who was a Hearing Instrument Specialist. After a long discussion over lunch one day, she inspired me and I knew right there and then that this is what I wanted to do,” Penny explains.

After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from McMaster University, Penny continued her studies at George Brown College where she completed the Hearing Instrument Specialist program with honours and earned an Advanced Diploma. Since then, she has found joy in allowing those with hearing loss to hear well.

“The most satisfying aspect of my job is seeing a client’s eyes light up once I place their very first hearing aids into their ears,” says Penny. “I also really enjoy mentoring future hearing practitioners here at the clinic.”

The Campaign for Better Hearing plays an important role in Penny’s career as well. For every free hearing test taken at her clinic and other sponsor clinics, $4.00 is donated toward the purchase of aids for those who need them but cannot afford them.
“Helping people who would otherwise not be able to afford hearing devices makes me very proud to be part of this campaign,” says Penny. “I enjoy helping people getting back the gift of hearing.”

When she is not in the clinic, Penny enjoys spending time with her two beautiful children, travelling with her family and experiencing new adventures with them.
