Name: Jennifer Panteluk
Location: Hearing Aid Practitioner at HearingLife, Edmonton North, AB

“The best part of my job is seeing how hearing aids can change someone’s life. I have seen people come in that are very withdrawn and quiet and seeing them smile and engage in conversation when they can finally hear again is amazing.”

Jennifer Panteluk wanted to be an astronaut as a child. Her ultimate choice to be a Hearing Aid Practitioner stems from Jennifer witnessing the challenges her mother faced with hearing loss.

“She is one of the most amazing, intelligent, hardworking, successful individuals I know,” says Jennifer. “My mother is an outstanding role model because she never let her hearing loss limit her in any way. I wanted to be able to help my mother and others that are facing challenges due to hearing loss.”

Jennifer attended Grant MacEwan University to become a Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner and graduated her program with distinction. She has been working at HearingLife for roughly four years, starting at the HearingLife location in Olds, Alberta and then eventually at the HearingLife North Edmonton location where she is today.

“The best part of my job is seeing how hearing aids can change someone’s life,” says Jennifer. “I have seen people come in that are very withdrawn and quiet. Seeing them smile and engage in conversation when they can finally hear again is amazing. It is very rewarding being able to help people hear again.”

Another rewarding part of Jennifer’s job is the National Campaign for Better Hearing. For every hearing test taken through the campaign’s sponsors, $4.00 is donated towards the purchase of hearing aids for those who need them.

“As a hearing aid wearer myself, (since my early teens,) I understand the struggles faced with hearing loss,” Jennifer adds. “I know at my age there is very little funding for hearing aids so often those in need of hearing aids leave the hearing loss untreated due to financial concerns. This campaign is an excellent opportunity to give hearing aids to those who greatly need them, but cannot afford them. I have seen firsthand, with a recipient I nominated at my clinic, the joy this campaign brings to people’s lives.”
