When you speak to Christine, you quickly realize that she has a wide range of interests.

“My favourite hobby is dancing,” says Christine. “I grew up dancing and my love for it has never stopped. I consider myself to be a very amateur photographer, (I am trying to self-teach myself how to take the perfect photo.) I also like to think of myself as a wannabe ultimate party planner. I love to plan fun events.”

In addition to her many hobbies, Christine enjoy adventure and travel. Recently, she and her husband back packed around Costa Rica for their honey moon. Now, they are planning a trip to Iceland later this year.

“I have an energetic zest for life,” says Christine. “I like to keep busy by keeping active and spending time with my friends, family and my chocolate Labrador, Rosie.”

So what inspired this ultimate party planner to head into the field of healthcare? Turns out, she knew she wanted to work in healthcare in some capacity.

“It runs in my family,” says Christine. “My mom is a retired ER nurse and my brother is a doctors. I am also a people person, so when I found out about the Hearing Instrument Specialist profession, I thought it would be a great fit for me; it combines healthcare with people skills.”

In three years, Christine graduated from the Hearing Instrument Specialist Program at George Brown College in 2013. She has been working with ListenUP! Canada for almost two years and finds a reward in every single day.

“I know that there is always a good chance that I will be able to make a difference in someone’s life by helping them hear. Hearing is what connects us to our friends and family as well as the sounds around us. Life is noisy and in order to live life to the fullest we might as well be able to hear to our full potential.”

Christine helps clients hear to their full potential through the Campaign for Better Hearing which encourages every Canadian over the age of 60 to test their ears. For every hearing test taken through the Campaign for Better Hearing, $4.00 is donated towards the purchase of aids for people who need them, but struggle to afford them.

“The campaign is a great way to discuss with clients and other visitors to the clinic the importance of their hearing health,” says Christine. “I had a firsthand experience with how great this campaign is when someone I nominated was chosen to be a recipient of the Give-back program and received a free set of hearing aids – being able to participate in giving someone the gift of hearing is a very meaningful experience.”
