Name: Evelyn Smith

Location: Hearing Aid Practitioner at Anderson Hearing Centres, Edmonton, Alberta

“I am in a unique position where I am hard of hearing myself and I wanted to help other hard of hearing people lead quality lives through the use of technology.”

Evelyn has been a hearing aid practitioner since 2013 and has worked at Anderson Hearing Centres since September 2015. Being a staff member at Anderson Hearing has allowed Evelyn to participate in the Campaign for Better Hearing, a campaign that awards hearing aids to those who need them but cannot afford them.

“I am thankful that Anderson Hearing partakes in the Campaign for Better Hearing because I am able to give the gift of hearing to those in need,” says Evelyn. “It’s a special gift to be able to give someone.”

In her spare time, you can find Evelyn Smith enjoying nature, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, knitting or listening to music. On the education side, although she has a Bachelor of Psychology and a Bachelor of Education, Evelyn decided to return to school to earn her Hearing Instrument Specialist diploma at Conestoga College.

“My professor Ted Venema at Conestoga College truly inspired me, plus I am hard of hearing myself and I wanted to help other hard of hearing people lead quality lives through the use of technology,” says Evelyn.

Evelyn finds the field of hearing healthcare to be very rewarding. She feels rewarded when her clients tell her how much of a difference hearing aids are making in their lives, but Evelyn’s desire to help others extends beyond her job in the hearing healthcare industry. She spends a lot of time volunteering in her community and is a proud member of the Fort Edmonton Kin Club: a charitable organization that serves the community through hosting and sponsoring events and community service projects.
