Name: Christine DeLuca
Location: Regional Manager at ListenUP! Canada, Milton, Ontario

“The Campaign for Better Hearing is just so important and an integral part of my job. I encourage everyone, (not just those over 60,) to have their hearing tested. It makes sense: you see your doctor annually for checkups, you ensure your blood pressure is checked, your eye exam is every year or two, why not hearing?”

Christine DeLuca is the latest staff profile from the Campaign for Better Hearing. When she’s not decorating cupcakes or spending time with her family, Christine is encouraging hearing tests, identifying those with hearing loss and ensuring that everyone gets the appropriate hearing healthcare that they require. She started working at ListenUP! Canada as a Client Service Administrator in 2005 before becoming a full-time audiologist in 2008. Her great work earned her a promotion to Clinic Manager in 2009 and from 2015 to the present, Christine has been working as a Regional Manager in Ontario for the same company.

For many people, hearing loss can be a debilitating impairment that has shown to lead to serious conditions such as social isolation, depression and anxiety. Christine recognizes Aural Rehabilitation as a big component of audiology and hearing healthcare. She uses her strong psychology background and training as well as her great passion for counselling to involve family members and significant others in the hearing health of the patient.

The reports and feedback from patients and their significant others about the positive impact that their hearing aids have on their lives is the most satisfying part of her job.

“It can be an emotionally charged process,” says Christine when asked about the most rewarding part of her job, “for some patients (and their family members,) hearing sounds for the first time in many years moves them to tears. It is so rewarding to be a part of this process and to be able to help change lives.”

Christine has an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Toronto, A Master of Clinical Science Degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Doctor of Audiology Degree from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Arizona, USA. She works at the ListenUP! Canada clinic in Milton.
