It can be a challenge to properly assess how severe your own hearing loss is when it fades gradually. Rob Dolliver of Nanaimo, BC, started to lose his hearing as he grew older and it started to have a dramatic impact in his personal life and at work.

“Over time you miss out on the conversations with family and friends and almost feel as if you are not part of the world anymore. You tend to go with it, so you don’t draw attention to the fact that you cannot hear properly,” said Rob. “My friend who is also hard of hearing indicated that I might need aids in both ears to balance the sound and ease the stress of that one ear. When I heard about the Campaign for Better Hearing and free tests, I was really encouraged to have a professional evaluate my situation.”

Rob had his hearing assessed at the HearingLife Canada clinic in Nanaimo by hearing professional Lana Cuddeford. Lana said when she met Rob, “we saw how much hearing aids improved his hearing, and it was life-changing for him. We wanted to do everything in our power to ensure that his bright future was not hindered. We nominated Rob and he was selected to receive two state-of-the-art hearing aids, changing his life in ways he couldn’t have imagined.”

Rob was fitted with his new hearing aids in June and has a message for those who are putting off getting their hearing tested. “Now that I can hear again, I am so thankful and happy to report that my confidence couldn’t be better. My message for those individuals who are suffering from hearing loss is to speak with the experts, this can be fixed and you can hear the results for yourself.”
